Fences

Last weekend Jason took a few extra days off and got some stuff done around the house. We now have a complete fence around the side of our house! I was getting tired of chasing the kids around there and being paranoid about the huge drop off over the retaining wall to the driveway below. My dad came over to help and they got it done in a couple of days. I am sooo excited about it!

Hannah even helped putting the leftover brick pieces from our old fireplace in the hole to stabilize the posts. She also learned how to be a real construction worker -- notice the Tim Hortons coffee cup in her hand. She stopped periodically to pretend to take a drink while she supervised Daddy.

Jason also spent a day tearing up the garden which was a real mess. There was a square in the middle for grass clippings that had a whole lot of bees in it so most of the time was spent trying to dismantle it while not getting stung. He succeeded. He also rented a rotatiller to dig it up and we will probably plant grass in there.
You can kind of see from this picture from last year what our garden used to look like. It was incredibly overgrown. I was trying to see past the weeds to pick raspberries. They were not that good and full of bugs so we decided it wasn't worth the effort and we tore them out last year. Jason was still finding potatoes in there as he dug it up. We also had a rat living in there this year so I will not be sad to have that gone.

The neighbour had a fence that we just added four sections to to enclose our side of the yard. We are relieved because we couldn't get a hold of our neighbour before hand to ask his permission but now he has told us to go ahead with it and it is already done! (He doesn't live in the house, he rents it out.)
