Hannah can "read"!

Hannah loves to read to her little sister. Unfortunately Kiera doesn't always stay sitting.

Getting caught up

It's been quite a while since I have posted anything which means there is a lot to post. The biggest news is that we are having another baby! Due July 22nd. I have gotten so big so fast this time. It is hard to believe I am only three months pregnant in this picture!

I have quit babysitting, partly because of the pregnancy wearing me out, but also because Hannah has started preschool this January. She is thrilled and, even though she got a later start than almost all of the other kids, she has settled in immediately. She is so easygoing. I was more nervous than her. It is the preschool that is connected to our church so that makes all of us feel very comfortable with it. She made sure to remind me that we have to go to church for preschool, in case I had forgotten how to get there. The other thing that we decided to take on this December was a craft sale. My mom and I hosted a craft sale at her house with ten women selling their homemade goods, everything from chocolates and cookies (that was us) to pillowcases and body lotions. It was a fun day but way too much for me to take on in the middle of my first trimester. My mom also got really sick with the flu that same week and we were regretting choosing perishable items which meant a lot of last minute prep. Maybe next year we will scale it down a bit.Kiera was pooped after that day too. She is such a Papa's girl, and a Grandpa's girl and of course a Daddy's girl too! Hannah's class had their Christmas performance mid-december. They were supposed to sing Silent Night and Away in a Manger. We had practiced at home but when the time came the crowd of photographers were too distracting. Oh well, they were cute!

Jason was able to take quite a bit of time off this Christmas. It was very nice. We spent most of the time at home, relaxing, playing in the snow and building tents of blankets.

Snow!!!

One of the biggest stories this Christmas was the snow. We had amazing amounts for around here. It was beautiful and apparently the first year since 1976 that all of Canada had a white Christmas at once. That's the rumour I heard anyway. Jason got alot of exercise shovelling the driveway up to three times a day and helping many of our neighbours up the hill into our complex. We also got a visit from our neighbourhood deer. I had seen them outside the kitchen window a few times this winter but the kids hadn't managed to get a glimpse. I think they thought I was making these creatures up. But we saw deer prints all around our house once the snow came so I knew we would get to see them eventually. They were right outside our front window one day, eating our shrubs. They looked at us through the window but only got scared when Jason went out to take their picture. I will really miss their visits if we ever move away from here.

Christmas

This Christmas we were snowed in on Christmas Eve, which meant a quiet day at home with the family. In the evening my parents and my brother managed to make it over from the island in time to have our traditional fondue, although it was reduced from a full meal fondue to a chocolate one because of the late time. No one seemed to mind! Then we had our own gift opening at our place Christmas morning. We were excited to give Kiera her ride-on fire truck which we knew she would love, and Hannah her doll house (thanks again Carolanne for finding it for us). They both loved their presents but it was the first year we really saw the greediness that can come with so much stuff. We had lots of opportunity to talk about thankfulness and sharing. Then we went on to Jason's parents'. As usual the girls had a great time with their cousins and got more wonderful gifts. Boxing day was at my parents. Hannah helped hand out the gifts since she can now "read" her name and Kiera's name (she knows H and K). It gets confusing when it comes to Jason, Julie and Jeff. Too many Js. We ate even more great food and had my cousin and her boyfriend over for the night. By the end of it all we were pretty tired and thankful for a few more days of vacation.

You should see the other guy...

Since Kiera is getting more and more adventurous she is also suffering the consequences.
