The Beach in April!!
Saturday was such a nice day here in southern BC, we decided to head to the beach in Harrison. Hannah brought along her sand toys and had lots of fun making sand castles with Nana and Papa, at least until she fell in the lake. Apparently she thought it was quite funny and told Nana "I won't do that again. What do you think?" However, I only had along a change of clothes and no change of shoes and socks, so we ended up buying a new pair of sandals which you can see in one of the pictures below. They are really cute Crock knock-offs which were on sale for a reasonable price, so I was happy too. Of course we couldn't go to Harrison without stopping for ice cream, and even got sprinkles on top! What a treat. Unfortunately, I was still in winter mindset and I brought along extra jackets and blankets but no sunhats or sunscreen. We all got a bit too much sun on our faces. The first sunburn of many I'm sure for Kiera. That never feels good when you see them get their first burn. It was a great day though, which made Daddy jealous. He had to work. We are counting down the days until the end of tax time. Then we will make up for all the fun he missed! The girls were so tired at the end they fell asleep in the car. So I enjoyed the nice weather a bit longer and hung around outside until they woke up and came in.
Can't wait until the next beautiful day! Hannah tells me everyday that we are going to the beach that day. Unfortunately it has been raining ever since.

New Additions...
Well, we finally have a few additions in our household. First, Kiera got her first three teeth last week. She was a bit later getting them than Hannah was so it seemed like a long wait. I was so excited I called Jason at work right away and we have been telling everyone. It is funny how excited you can get over some teeth. It's not like she had to do anything to get them they just come in on their own. I'm sure there is a sermon or moral in there somewhere. I just don't feel quite introspective enough right now to figure one out. On another note, she also learned how to crawl. She goes back and forth between real crawling on hands and knees and the army crawl. It has been hitting me what a change this will mean for our family. The baby gate has to go back up, which means Hannah will also be confined to one of the two floors. All the little toys (and leaves and rocks that keep making their way into our house) must be kept up high now, which means Hannah needs to learn how to put certain toys out of reach. A little more vigilance for everyone. But we are all very proud of our little kiwi.

The other new addition to the household is Charlie, our fish. Not much to say about him. He was silver and blue, which is why he got to be the lucky one, chosen from the rows of other fish on the lonely shelves in the pet store and adopted into this loving family. But now he has turned reddish blue like all the others. He is still pretty to look at through. And he is a start, maybe someday we will move up to a real aquarium (we are using my old fish bowl from my single days) and then we can branch out to more adventurous fish.

March Break
March break for us this year means lots of work. Jason is well into his busy time of year, working long hours at the office and some at home in the evenings this year too.
Hannah's work has been to learn how to use the toilet. Potty training started last week and it has been going pretty well. We had some really discouraging days in the beginning and I was kept busy cleaning up puddles, but now she is doing really well. It is a bit sad, actually, to see her growing up. She's just one more step away from being our little baby. She was being very cute the other day and when I laughed she said "stop laughing at me!" She is becoming so much more aware and self-conscious. It makes me want to hold onto Kiera's babyhood that much more.
Kiera still amazes us with her laidback, easy-going demeanor. Even when she is sick it is hard to tell because she smiles through all of it. Although, we have yet to see any teeth come through! Maybe that will be harder on her when the time comes. Right now she is working on crawling and standing. She is getting good at rocking on all fours but so far she still just ends up going in circles on her stomach most of the time.
As for me these last few weeks, aside from cleaning up puddles and doing laundry, I have been getting a small taste of being a working mom. I have been helping out at Jason's office putting together tax returns, which basically means a lot of photocopying, stapling and hole-punching. It has been good to have some variety from the usual and to see more of that side of Jason's life. And the girls have enjoyed some extra time with their grandmothers.
We also got to have some good family time recently. My brother came over from the island for Easter weekend. Kiera took a bit to warm up to him but Hannah wasted no time getting him to sit on the floor with her to play motorcycles. He brought along Keona his not-so-little, super energetic puppy, who is about the same age as Kiera but is already bigger than Hannah. Kiera was fascinated with Keona and not at all scared. Hannah, on the other hand, was thrilled with the dog as long as she was in the other room. They will play nicely together when they are all a bit older and calmer. (I must admit, I was happy with the dog when she was in the other room too. I am not an animal lover to begin with but I also developed a fear of dogs when I lived in Romania where stray dogs are everywhere.) While Jeff was over we had an Easter egg hunt. Hannah's first. Once she got the gist of it she had lots of fun and even got a couple of special little presents. I struggled a bit this year with how to make the real message and meaning of Easter a part of things. Maybe next year we will find opportunities for that. It seems hard to talk to a two year old about forgiveness and Jesus dying on the cross for our sin.
So that is a short update on our lives. If I can find more time I will post some pictures.

February
Here are some of t
he adventures of Banana and Kiwi and their parents from the month of February... Jason bought me flowers for Valentine's Day and I made him a cheesecake. He didn't know I was taking care of dessert so he brought home some doughnuts. They got smushed but the sentiment was there.

Just hanging out, having fun together...

Some days this month have been so nice. Days for opening the windows and airing out the house, going to the park across the street, picnics at Mill Lake and washing the van.

Kiera is growing up so much. She is working on pulling her bum up in the air so she can learn to crawl, but she is still pretty small. Note -- this was Daddy's doing, Mommy got pretty squeemish when she walked in on this scene. It sure is cute though, as long as no one else thinks it would be fun to try to play in there.
